Armed with his iPhone camera, his sense of humor and imagination, street photographer Diego Madrazo discovered a unique artistic voice capturing the essence of a city where pre- Hispanic heritage continues to resonate in the present.
Mexico City is a place where modernity clashes with tradition, and ancient stories are woven into the fabric of daily existence. For Diego Madrazo the bustling streets are both the canvas and the stage where the paradox of photography comes to life.
Initially, the iPhone might not seem like a tool for art.
But for Diego it is precisely for its technical simplicity and size that gives him the agility to explore the complex layers of Mexico City's life.
To illustrate his artistic approach to street photography seven photographs have been selected and can be seen currently at the gallery from September 21 through
November 20, 2023.
As you take a second look to the 7 photographs you begin to notice that his work is a play between objective reality and the artist creative imagination and visual storytelling.
Each of these pictures go beyond the simple act of documentation. Instead he takes the viewer inside a world, his world where the ordinary becomes extraordinary, where the everyday routine is charged with poetry, humor and surrealism.
